Description

IWC Schaffhausen is ringing in the Lunar New Year in grand style with a special edition timepiece. This year, starting from 10th February 2024, is the auspicious Year of the Wood Dragon, a rare event in the Chinese calendar that happens only every six decades. Dragon years are special, associated with vitality, strength, confidence, and intelligence. These years are seen as harbingers of good fortune, wealth, and economic growth.

Since 1998, the Portugieser Chronograph has been a standout in IWC Schaffhausen’s Portugieser series, known for its dynamic and sporty character. This watch is particularly popular for its vertically aligned counters and a quarter-seconds scale that offers precision and style.

The “Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon” (Ref. IW371629) has a 41-mm stainless steel case, an eye-catching burgundy dial, and hands and appliques in gold plating. Burgundy, reminiscent of fire’s vibrant hue, is chosen for its traditional association with the Lunar New Year in China, symbolizing longevity and fortune. At its heart is the IWC 69355 calibre showcased through a transparent sapphire case back. This back also features a gold-plated rotor, intricately designed in the shape of a dragon, and an engraving that reads “2024 YEAR OF THE DRAGON.”

Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon comes with two strap options – a classic black calfskin and a striking burgundy rubber strap, offering versatility in style, limited to just 1’000 pieces.
